Your referee staff has been busy preparing for the Fall 2009 Soccer Season. A local Intermediate and Advance and National Referee Upgrade Course starting July 31, 2009 ! More Information. Please contact Bruce Bennett if you would like to attend. Fall Referee Training courses have been scheduled. Please check the Referee Training page for details. Our Returning Referee Meeting will be held September 3, 2009 at the Los Robles Golf Conference Center. Your Referee Staff has been expanded to include a new Clubspaces Tech Support Director, and a new Uniform Director. Please contact them directly for help with Clubspaces and uniforms. Our Referee Advisor Program is expanding. Our goal is to have a Referee Advisor on the fields at all times to help new or inexperienced referees, or for referees who may be moving to the center of the field for the first time. Check our Referee Advisor page for details or contact Dan Rosen. Encouraging referees to upgrade their referee certification. Bruce Bennett recently passed his Advanced Referee Assessment, as did David Woodruff at the Pot O' Gold. Neal Wells passed his Intermediate Informal Assessment also at the Pot O' Gold. Our new Director of Assessment and Upgrades is Bruce Bennett and he will be contacting everyone to offer his upgrade assistance. We have requested some Area U16 games to be scheduled to play on our new fields this Fall. Our intent is to demonstrate to young players that there is fun, safe and competitive soccer after U14, and that they can play with Region 9 up to the age of 19 against neighboring Regions. These games will also provide an opportunity for some of our Advanced Referees to work older competitive matches on Saturdays. Our Coach Evaluation link is where coaches can give feedback regarding referee performance. The feedback will be limited to mis-applications of the Laws of the Game, and not for differences of opinion or judgment issues. The purpose is to give coaches a means of communicating when mistakes are made by referees on the field, which are inevitable even for the best trained referees, and give your Referee Staff information for training and education purposes. Coaches are not permitted to dissent on the field and will be turned away from the Referee Tent on game day, but they should be permitted to bring mistakes to light so they may be corrected. All feedback will be addressed by the Regional Referee Administrator in conjunction with the Regional Coach Administrator. Coming soon, a 2009 Referee Handbook. It it will include important dates and referee information for the upcoming season. This handbook will be available here in .pdf format and two copies distributed to all coaches (one copy for you...the Team Referee). Lastly, I would like to thank all of you who helped with the Pot O' Gold. It is our one and only fundraiser for the year, and it provides substantial funds for the Region and field improvements. This tournament is always successful, thanks to the support of the many Region 9 Referees who show up to referee or work the referee tent. Steve Cruise Regional Referee Administrator |
