The Region 9 Referee
Advisor Program is designed to assist new and inexperienced referees by
matching them with experienced r eferees when a need arises. The
following situations are examples when a Referee Mentor might be useful:
-
You are fresh out of your U8 or Basic Referee Class and
feel overwhelmed by the materials covered.
-
You have a few additional questions and would like
someone to briefly help you with your first game or two.
-
You feel comfortable with the materials and your
abilities, but would like someone to watch your performance and provide some
pointers or an informal assessment.
-
You are preparing to do your first game as a "Center
Referee" and would like someone with experience to assist your first game.
-
You are a youth referee and feel intimidated by the
adults.
-
Anytime you would like some help, advice, or feedback
with your referee duties
-
This season we are scheduling our Referee Advisors to make
sure at least one is available for assistance at all times during league play.
If you did not schedule their assistance in advance, you should go to the
referee tent and ask the duty Referee Advisor for assistance. If not, the
Referee Advisor will be working the fields, offering tips, pointers and
assistance as he deems necessary.
Please understand, the Referee Advisor is there to help you.
Any comments or pointers he gives are designed to help you and are no way meant
to be critical. Even the best, most experience referee will seek out the
advice and support of other referees as everyone has legitimate, different means
of working as a referee.
Remember: You are never alone on the fields.
Region 9 Staff is always available to help. Anytime you need assistance or
feel uncomfortable with any situation, you should ask a field monitor or parent
to go to the referee tent for help.
